Before you apply it’s important you think about whether this job is right for you. This site is dedicated to roles primarily in the Border Operations team.  This role is critical to promoting and protecting New Zealand and as a Customs Officer you will primarily focus on law enforcement and protecting our borders.

All candidates need to be able to meet the following security requirement prior to applying for a vacancy:

  • Be a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last 5 years, OR
  • Be a Permanent Resident of New Zealand, who has resided continuously in NZ and preferably in one or more of the following countries for the last 5 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you are unable to meet this requirement, we will not be able to progress your application.
