The Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry in Asia is undergoing fast digital transformation as consumer consumption habits move towards new paths to purchase. A recent report by A.T. Kearney revealed that e-commerce contributes less than one percent of sales in Southeast Asia today. This is expected to grow by 10 times in the next four to five years.
So far the FMCG industry has been relatively slow compared to other industries in the uptake of e-commerce platforms to drive these sales. People have changed the way they buy and FMCG organisations have finally understood that they need to change their digital strategies. This is evident with the recent announcement of Amazon setting up in Asia and Lazada’s acquisition of Redmart, highlighting a move into digital sales of fresh produce.
This rapidly changing environment is challenging FMCG organisations to not only find sales and marketing talent who can adapt to these digital transformations, but also streamline their headcount as the global economic outlook remains uncertain.
Looking forward into 2017, we anticipate these will be the top three most in-demand roles in the FMCG sector:
Digital transformation in the FMCG world is fast changing to adapt to evolving consumer demands, but organisations don’t just need marketing or brand managers with digital skills. The managers that have a full suite of skills in the digital and traditional aspects are in the highest demand as it allows organisations to be leaner with their headcount.
Salary range: S$120,000 to S$150,000 per annum, excluding bonuses.
FMCG organisations are searching for trade marketing talent who have experience with e-commerce, a relatively rare skillset at this time. With this mix, FMCG organisations are able to target their sales and marketing strategies at the wholesaler, retailer and distributor levels, as well as directly to consumers on both traditional and digital platforms.
Salary range: S$120,000 to S$160,000 per annum, excluding bonuses.
senior merchandising experts
Merchandising experts who are able to challenge that way organisations sell are highly in demand. Candidates with overseas exposure in mature markets such as Europe and Australia, and who can bring their experience as well as avant-garde ideas to the Singapore market can command high salaries of up to S$20,000 per month.
Salary range: S$180,000 to S$240,000 per annum, excluding bonuses.
