Key areas of accountability

  • Accurate completion of regular financial accounting processes within the agreed timeframe for ledger close and other reporting deadlines.
  • Ensure accurate, concise and up-to-date work papers and documentation are maintained to enable good audit trail.
  • Maintain a good understanding of the balances recorded in the general ledger.
  • Completion of monthly reconciliations to ensure the integrity of the general ledger and that balances are fully supported by appropriate source documentation.
  • Monthly review of the work-in-process balances and work with project managers to ensure timely capitalisation of fixed assets and intangibles.
  • Preparation of the year-end and half-year statutory financial statements.
  • Provide assistance to external and internal auditors to ensure any queries are resolved on a timely manner.
  • Preparation and filing of taxation returns to the Inland Revenue Department, including GST, FBT and income tax as required.
  • Preparation of regulatory returns for the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and Statistics NZ.
  • Preparation of information and presentation required for credit rating agencies.
  • Manage good working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on financial reporting standards, tax and other relevant legislations.
  • Ensure processes are properly documented to enable business continuity.
  • Provide back-up for the financial accounting team as required by the Financial Accounting Manager.
  • Proactively review processes to identify process improvement opportunities.

Essential
• CA, CPA or member of equivalent recognised professional body
• Undergraduate degree in commerce or accounting
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial accounting and statutory reporting under NZ IFRS in medium to large organisations
• Experience using large ERP systems
• Advanced excel skills

Preferred

• TechnologyOne experience
• Working knowledge of NZ taxation
• Experience in financial services or insurance industry
