... About the Role - Food Advisor
As a Food Advisor you will manage our catering services, provide expert advice on food compliance, and drive initiatives to increase "paddock to plate" practices.This role plays a critical part in ensuring high standards of nutrition, safety, and food quality while optimising our inventory, waste management, and procurement strategies.
The Food Advisor will support residential sites by developing and overseeing meal plans and purchasing food for the organisation.
Position details
- Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5.00pm. Please note on occasions you may be required to work outside of these hours, depending on the support needs of whanaunga and the business
- Starting from $84,000 per annum (depending of qualifications and experience, aligned with pay equity)
A day in the role
- Manage and oversee catering services, ensuring nutritious, high-quality meals are prepared and served across the organisation.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, health, and sanitation regulations by conducting audits and providing food compliance guidance.
- Develop and implement paddock to plate initiatives, focusing on local sourcing and sustainability.
- Monitor and manage inventory control, ensuring cost-effective and efficient ordering of food supplies.
- Implement and oversee waste management strategies, reducing food waste and optimising disposal practices.
- Support residential sites by developing meal plans and assisting with the preparation of nutritious meals tailored to specific needs.
- Handle the purchasing of food supplies for the organisation, negotiating with suppliers to ensure quality and cost-efficiency.
We are seeking Food Advisor who
- Degree or certification in Nutrition, Food Science, Culinary Arts, or related field.
- At least 5 years experience in food services, catering, or food compliance roles.
- Expertise in food safety regulations, health standards, and nutritional guidelines.
- Strong organisational, inventory management, and decision-making skills.
- Experience in sustainable food sourcing and paddock to plate practices.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a passion for fostering autonomy and innovation.
- Commitment to cultural sensitivity and respect for kaupapa Māori principles.
