The Role

We are seeking to appoint an energetic, gregarious and dynamic music teacher for a specialist music school in Christchurch. This music education provider is a leader in preschool and school age music, specialising in piano, percussion and group music lessons. They provide a holistic approach to music tuition which is moulded around “listen, sing, play, read, FUN”! The academy program is aligned with an internationally recognised music education curriculum.

This exciting role is part time and would involve working alongside preschool and primary aged children to teach them all things music. The classes involve various technical aspects like playing the piano, singing in tune, developing technique, recognising pitch and learning concepts through play.

The Person

You will have experience in teaching or working with children and possess musical skill (e.g,the ability to sing in tune and play piano or another instrument). You will be required to fit into a high performing team in reaching the highest quality musical education for all children and families.

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Prior teaching experience or experience working with children (or experience in an early child setting)
  • Proficiency in playing the piano
  • A clear voice, with the ability to sing in tune
  • A qualification in either music, teaching or education is advantageous as are Trinity / ABRSM grade certificates or qualifications
  • Knowledge of music theory & the capability to read music
  • A warm, friendly persona with the ability to relate well to children & parents.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
  • Effective judgement skills and maturity
  • Be able to work after school, weekends or weekday mornings
