About the Role – Te Ao Āpōpo – Pou Manaaki
Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa is seeking dedicated Pou Manaaki within their Te Ao Āpōpō team. Te Ao Āpōpō is a service for rangatahi ages 16-18 who are experiencing homelessness. There will be three houses catering for up to 20 rangatahi within the three houses based in the Hamilton area. You will work closely with the rangatahi to create care-plans and goals and encourage active learning in a safe environment.
This full-time position, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5.00pm, requires a dedicated individual to facilitate new rangatahi referrals, create personalised care plans, monitor progress, and provide support. The ideal candidate will collaborate with stakeholders, empower rangatahi through skill-building, and foster community while upholding Kaupapa Māori values.
Positions Details
- Monday to Friday (40 hours/week)
- Between $64,480 - $72,509 dependent on qualifications and experience working in the youth sector
A Day in the Role
- Facilitate referral process and create tailored care plans for rangatahi alongside Team Lead
- Monitor progress, collaborate with stakeholders, and offer support
- Empower rangatahi through skill-building and personal development
- Complete achievement summaries, foster community, and ensure transparency
- Provide leadership, coordinate operations, and uphold policies
- Establish relationships with external organisations and advocate for rangatahi needs
- Support the Team Leader, promote Kaupapa Māori values, and encourage growth
- Lead by example and encourage feedback for service improvement
We are seeking a Pou Manaaki – Te Ao Āpōpō who
- Pride themselves on their ability to work to a whānau first, tikanga based, wellbeing approach
- Have a positive and supportive mindset in supporting rangatahi to achieve their goals and aspirations
- Proven supervisory experience in youth services with proactive communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills for relationship-building and the ability to problem-solve under pressure
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and youth development
- Commitment to cultural sensitivity and kaupapa Māori principles
- Previous team leadership experience in residential settings
- Knowledge of youth development best practices and familiarity with crisis intervention and conflict resolution
- Training in first aid, CPR, or emergency response skills
- Evidence of being fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19
- Full driver licence
- Proof of your right to work in New Zealand
