We are seeking reliable individuals who want to protect this beautiful country. Serious biosecurity issues, including Kauri dieback disease, rodents, and plague skinks to name a few, are affecting Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland’s landscape, and we want you to be a champion to prevent any more damage. You will be educating visitors hiking through Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland’s tracks and traveling to the Hauraki Gulf Islands on the importance of preventing the spread of pests and diseases. As a Biosecurity Champion, you will provide friendly education and advice to increase awareness of these issues, and the positive action we can all take individually. This is an important role that will allow you to be an advocate for Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland’s natural environment, taonga and our collective wellbeing. With the potential for ongoing work into 2022, this is the perfect opportunity to take on exciting summer work and kick-start your new year. Being a Biosecurity Champion means you will be stationed at popular tracks in local and regional parks across Tāmaki Makaurau, and/or at key waterfront ferry and boat departure points. You will be scheduled on a seven-day roster and will be required to work weekends and public holidays, starting from 13th December 2021 to April 2022. All Champions must also be comfortable working solo, be outdoors all day and sometimes in remote locations.
