job description

The role of the Regional Management Accountant is to provide trusted, insightful, and comprehensive financial advice, while supporting front line leaders.

This includes the provision of analysis and advice to inform business decisions and enable budget managers to meet their financial accountabilities.


The Regional Management Accountant is to:
• Play a key role in lifting the financial capability of leaders;
• Ensure the provision of timely, accurate and relevant information, analysis and business support to assist financial and operational decision-making and management;
• Support the delivery of accurate and effective financial budgeting and forecasting;
• Contribute to the enhancement of business performance across the organization;
• Influence long-term outcomes for business areas including financial sustainability.

The role:

  • Consult, challenge and guide thinking to achieve sound decision making that maximises the benefit from financial resources.
  • Provide advice to the budget manager of financial risks and/or opportunities.
  • Provide spend analysis (historical trends, comparisons, ratios, etc.).
  • Provide first line cost modelling and/or financial impact assessments to support business proposals, business cases, etc.
  • Facilitate discussions as needed between budget managers and relevant support functions
  • Build effective relationships with budget managers becoming trusted advisors so as to influence them in the execution of the budget responsibilities.
  • Improve financial understanding and lift the capability of budget managers through coaching, advice and support that adds learning and value.
  • Process accruals, other journals, reconciliations, GL account completeness/ reasonableness review, and communications to managers and administrators.
  • Load volume data.
  • Review appropriateness of spend.
  • Prepare forecasts in accordance with agreed methodology.
  • Action budget and forecast allocations, transfers and adjustments as directed.
  • Prepare timely and accurate month-end and ad hoc reporting to budget managers.

Desired:

  • A tertiary qualification (at least equivalent to Bachelors) in finance or a relevant discipline and preferably Chartered Accountant status with CAANZ or a similar professional body.
  • Public sector background
  • Effective performance in a similar role, with demonstrated competence and experience in providing financial insight, advice and challenge in a medium to a large-sized organisation.
  • Experience working with medium to large-sized finance systems, and reporting, budgeting, and forecasting tools.

Also required:

Willingness to travel within New Zealand to fulfil the requirements of the role.

The ability to manage sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.
