About Stats NZ

Here at Stats NZ we have a vision to unleash the power of data to change lives. The Local Area Leader is at the forefront of this vision, leading our South Wellington based team sourcing data from households.

The Field Collections team is responsible for collecting survey information from households and businesses across New Zealand. The information we collect is used by our business to produce meaningful stories about New Zealand to help people make informed decisions.

About this role


As a Local Area Leader you will be responsible for leading a team of remote Survey Interviewers who are the face of Stats NZ in dealing with households and businesses. This is a hands-on, highly engaging role where you can utilise your strong leadership and motivational skills to help your team be the best they can be. Your professional approach will provide invaluable support to your manager, colleagues and team alike. Your positive, flexible, enthusiastic attitude, and willingness to participate proactively, will make you a key member of our team.

Your broad role as a Local Area Leader will see you:

  • Lead day to day operations
  • Develop yourself and others
  • Undertake survey interviewing
  • Communicate effectively when working remotely
  • Demonstrate a proactive awareness of Health and Safety in the workplace

About you:

  • Experience in leading a team and driving business outcomes
  • Experience in communicating at multiple levels within an organisation
  • Have experience in successfully supporting training delivery and/or coaching others
  • A passion for change and the ability to use it as an opportunity to improve

Specific requirements:

  • Work from home, but travel regularly to support the team
  • Have a current clean New Zealand driver's license
  • Own a reliable vehicle
  • Have access to a broadband internet connection at home

You will be given all the tools you need to succeed, great training, and on-going support.
