The people and technology at the Wellington Transport Operations Centre (WTOC) are the eyes, brains and heart behind our roads and signals in all of the Central and Lower North Island of New Zealand. They provide services that help road users have a safe and enjoyable journey whilst at the same time helping make smarter travel choices before or during their journeys.

WTOC have exciting opportunities to join their vibrant team in a full time capacity, working 40 hours per week. The hours will be on a roster basis, working 9hour shifts during either the day, afternoon or night.

As a TOC Operator, you will be responsible for observing live feed from CCTV cameras across the country and monitoring traffic flow. By quickly responding to incidents and events around nationwide state highways and motorways, you will be able to update road and motorway electronic messages and web updates.

Your attention to detail and strong communication skills will allow you dispatch and respond to events using

the latest technology. More importantly, you will be able to ensure that road users and motorists have reliable

information that will allow them to plan their travels safely.

To be successful in this role, it is important that you are able to display the following skills:

  • Administration/Customer service experience
  • Computer and tech savvy
  • A good NZ geographical knowledge

As an individual, you will be able to display the following attributes:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
  • A calm demeanour and willingness to pitch in

Please note:

  • You must have the ability to work across all shift times
  • You must have a clear criminal history and pass a Police and Ministry of Justice check
  • A full and clean driver’s license is required
