Mena kei te hiahia koe kia pai ake nga wahi mahi o Aotearoa, anei te tunga mau

WorkSafe New Zealand is now hiring full time permanent Health and Safety Inspectors to start on 23rd September 2019.

Watch this video to get an insight into a day in life of an inspector: https://youtu.be/LWZfvXe3sPc

Health and safety is undergoing a major shift in New Zealand and you can play a big part in inspiring others to change the culture and make offices, construction sites, farms, factories and other workplaces healthy and safe. The advice and guidance you give could save lives.

Working for the Napier investigations team, you will be responding to serious injuries and fatalities in a wide range of industries. This role comes with a lot of diversity with no two days of work being the same. You will join a small supportive team who work with each other to achieve positive outcomes for businesses and victims.

An excellent communicator with even stronger writing skills will fit into this role well. We are also particularly interested to hear from people with previous regulatory or investigations experience.

WorkSafe inspectors engage with the community everyday: conducting assessments and investigations, educating workers and business owners about how they contribute to safer workplaces, and enforcing health and safety legislation. The world of work continues to grow in complexity, and WorkSafe inspectors need to be able to traverse all sectors and manage the associated issues.

You may have never thought about being a health and safety inspector, but you could have all of the skills we’re looking for:

  • An analytical mindset – be able to look beyond the immediately obvious to diagnose the underlying causes, rather than the issue at hand
  • Excellent communication skills – be able to explain legislation and regulations in plain English to a wide audience
  • Exceptional people skills - be the person who can connect with people from all backgrounds, build rapport, show compassion and influence change
  • Understand and apply practical ideas - be able to listen to and understand the business’ practices and adjust your approach accordingly
  • An interest in health and safety and a desire to help organisations and workers get up to speed with best practice and legislation
  • Have the confidence to speak with, educate and inspire anyone: workers, managers, business owners, board members, and CEOs
  • An adaptable self-starter - whether working on your own or with others, you’ll be able to look at the situation in front of you and decide on the best way forward

Experience in occupational health or mental health is highly sought after, as are speakers of a second language.

What is in it for you?

  • You will receive discounted health insurance and fully paid life, income protection and trauma insurance
  • Ongoing learning: Two NZQA Level 4 Qualifications (Regulatory Knowledge & Regulatory Practice) upon completion of your initial training
  • Workplace flexibility once you are trained and warranted: you will need to be able to complete the fundamentals of your position, however, Worksafe is employer that recognises your needs

You must hold to be considered for this role:

  • Full drivers licence
  • NZ residency or NZ/Australian citizenship

Please note that the recruitment process for this role will take up to 12 weeks and involves assessments and video, phone and face to face interviews. Applications close on the 30th June.

WorkSafe are committed to having a diverse workforce to match the variety of people, industries, and situations that inspectors see. As such, we welcome and encourage applications from people of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds.

At Randstad, we are passionate about providing equal employment opportunities and embracing diversity to the benefit of all. We actively encourage applications from any background.
