About the Role - Youth Coach
Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa is seeking a dedicated Youth Coach to play a crucial role within their Whai Marama Youth Services Team. Whai Marama Youth Services is a youth focused service designed to support taiohi (young adults) across the Hamilton region. The team has two functions; Financial Assistance and NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) service. Financial assistance supports taiohi with relevant financial assistance that is provided to young parents or young persons. The NEET function works closely within the community to assist the taiohi into autonomy to drive their own future and have a voice for themselves and their overall wellbeing.
Position details
- Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 5.00pm
- Starting from $27.50 per hour (depending of qualifications and experience, aligned with pay equity)
A day in the role
- Evaluating new sign ups to the programme
- Running youth workshops and programmes
- Networking and working closely within the community
- Managing your own caseload
- Working closely with external agencies to best support taiohi
- Understanding taiohi education and training needs to help shape the career and future they want (e.g goal planning and cv making)
- Supporting taiohi with any issues they come across (mental health, addiction, family crisis and housing needs)
- Visiting rangatahi (young people) at homes and at school as well as talking to their whānau
We are seeking Youth Coaches who
- Pride themself on their ability to work to a whānau first, tikanga based, wellbeing approach
- Have a positive and supportive mindset in supporting our taiohi to achieve their goals and aspirations
- Have a basic understanding of te ao Māori principles (e.g. te reo and tikanga) and a willingness to learn more in this area
- Have 1-3 years working in a kaupapa Māori environment
- Have 1-3 years experience in coaching or mentoring taiohi
- Have a level 4 qualification in youth coaching/learning and development, te reo Māori, tikanga Māori or be prepared to study towards one or more of these qualifications
- Have evidence of being fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19
- Have a full drivers licence
- Have proof of your right to work in New Zealand (One year minimum)
