A leading organisation in Wellington is seeking a talented and immediately available Accountant to join their tight-knit team for a 6-month fixed-term position.
This is a fantastic development opportunity for an assistant accountant ready to step up. You will play a crucial role in maintaining and developing this organisations finances while finding innovative ways to leverage their accounting system, Business Central. Your purpose is to assist in the provision of an accounting and financial information management and to provide general assistance to staff with financial administration. This role offers great mentorship, allowing you to grow your skills in a supportive environment.
What You'll Do:
... - Cash Management: Prepare daily bank reconciliations, including liaising regarding receivable invoicing for income. Manage petty cash and foreign exchange.
- Month-End Reconciliations: Reconcile petty cash (including foreign currency), Accounts Payable (AP), and Accounts Receivable (AR) to General Ledger (GL) accounts. Manage the Fixed Asset Register and journal the depreciation. Prepare other month-end journals as required.
- General Finance Administration: Provide essential backup support for payroll and leave management, income distribution, credit card management, and assisting with the collection of data and preparation of information requests. You will also raise AR invoices for the collection of income.
- Finance System Enhancement: Lead the finance system maintenance and improvement process for all finance-related tools. Provide support for any issues with Business Central (accounting system). Examples include automating expense claims and credit card transactions, establishing e-invoicing, and automating prepayment journals. You will be crucial in finding ways to use Business Central to their advantage.
- GST & Other Taxation Returns: Prepare monthly GST and other tax returns, including necessary adjustments for review by the line manager. File GST and other tax returns and arrange payment (if required) by the due date.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively in a team environment, contributing to collective outcomes, assisting colleagues, and sharing your knowledge to build the capability of others.
Experience Required:
◦ An accounting background or accounting qualification.
◦ Experience in an assistant accounting role or similar
◦ Advanced capability with Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel.
◦ Knowledge of accounting systems (Business Central desired but not required)
