We're looking for an exceptional Private Secretary for a fixed-term contract of 12-18 months. This is a unique opportunity to act as the vital link between a Minister's office and a key government Ministry, playing a critical role in shaping public policy and ensuring effective governance.
About the Role
As a Private Secretary, you will be the central point of contact, ensuring a seamless flow of information and advice. Your days will be busy and varied, demanding strategic thinking and a calm, composed approach. This is more than an administrative role; it's a position of trust and influence where you will be an integral part of the Minister's team.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Advice & Briefing: Provide the Minister with timely, high-quality advice on portfolio-related matters. You'll manage the flow of official documents, including correspondence and briefings, and must proactively anticipate the Minister's needs to ensure "no surprises."
Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with the Minister, their staff, and other key contacts across Parliament and government agencies. You'll also expertly manage external relationships with the public and sector interest groups.
Administrative Excellence: Handle a significant workload with precision and prioritize tasks effectively. This includes managing correspondence, Official Information Act (OIA) requests, and parliamentary questions. You'll also play a key part in preparing the Minister for meetings and oral questions.
Risk Mitigation: Identify and manage potential risks and conflicts of interest, developing mitigation strategies in close consultation with the Minister and their team.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a confident, experienced, and resilient professional who thrives in a dynamic, high-pressure environment. You must possess the ability to think on your feet and work autonomously while being a collaborative team player.
Essential Qualities & Experience:
Proven Experience: Demonstrated experience working within government departments, or in a Private Secretary capacity, is essential.
In-Depth Knowledge: A deep understanding of the "machinery of government," including parliamentary and public service protocols, is non-negotiable.
Subject Matter Expertise: A strong grasp of the key issues within the portfolio.
Security Clearance: You must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Confidential Security Clearance.
If you are a highly organised, discreet, and politically savvy individual ready to take on a challenging and rewarding role, we encourage you to apply.
