Senior Project Manager
Our client is looking to hire a business focused Senior Project Manager. This is a Wellington based contract role through to 30 September 2026. Highly likely to extend.
Key responsibilities
Business led project delivery
- Ability to lead projects where the primary outcomes are business change and operational readiness, rather than asset delivery alone.
- Able to rapidly absorb information across policy, operational, digital, financial, and customer domains, and translate it into effective delivery actions.
Stakeholder engagement and influence
- Proven capability engaging with senior leaders, sponsors, and diverse stakeholders
- Ability to manage and build alignment across digital, infrastructure and customer and services delivery teams
Planning and control
- Strong capability in scope, schedule, budget, risk, and dependency management
- Able to establish and maintain robust project plans, reporting, and controls
Governance and assurance
- Experience working within governance frameworks, including steering groups, sponsors, and stage-gate assurance gate assurance
- Skilled at preparing clear papers, recommendations, and escalations for decision‑makers
Change and implementation focus
- Understanding of change impacts on BAU operations, customers, and systems
- Ability to work closely with change, communications, and operational teams to support successful implementation
- Able to work effectively where accountability is distributed, outcomes are business‑led, and no single group has end‑to‑end ownership
- Ability to align differing priorities, time frames, and constraints into a single, coherent delivery plan that supports agreed outcomes
Risk and dependency management across groups
- Proactive identification and management of cross business risks and dependencies, including those arising from policy, system readiness, operational capacity, or customer impacts business risks and dependencies
- Ability to work collaboratively with risk owners in different groups to agree mitigations and contingencies
