About the Role
As the Advisor – Health, Safety & Assurance, the successful candidate will step into a varied, hands-on role nestled within our client's Service Development team. This standalone position supports the entire organisation, focusing on embedding people-centered safety and risk frameworks during an exciting growth phase.
Because their mahi centers on community housing, this isn't a traditional construction safety role. Instead, the work directly protects their people, volunteers, and diverse tenant base. The advisor will be the expert behind health, safety, and compliance projects that keep hearts and minds safe.
Key Responsibilities
... Health & Safety Leadership: Lead and maintain the health and safety work programme, review internal policies/procedures, manage wellbeing and risk registers, and run robust incident investigations.
Assurance & Risk Support: Support governance reporting, internal controls, and audit readiness activities to ensure full legal and organizational compliance
Safeguarding Communities: Act as the Safeguarding Children Lead, overseeing the vetting, training, and compliance tracking for their vital volunteers.
Business Continuity & Resilience: Coordinate testing exercises, training activities, and maintain emergency response plans to keep operations running during local disruptions.
Organisational Support & Training: Provide coaching and practical training to staff and contractors. Manage internal templates, safe vehicle fleet compliance, and develop e-learning training modules.
Cultural Responsiveness: Demonstrate a genuine commitment to regional indigenous cultural principles, actively supporting safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace practices.
About You
The ideal candidate is an organised, multi-tasking professional with an eye for detail and a genuine focus on people. They will bring a balance of technical assurance expertise and a high level of empathy needed to interact with communities from complex cultural, social, or health backgrounds.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
At least 2 years of experience in an advisory or coordination role handling multiple compliance or safety initiatives.
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., policy, risk, health & safety) or extensive comparable operational experience.
Demonstrated experience with policy development and process mapping.
Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to effectively connect with people from diverse backgrounds or those who speak English as a second language.
Strong technical literacy across the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and experience managing information or e-learning platforms.
An ICAM qualification or experience with formal incident investigation methodologies is highly desirable.
Absolute eligibility to work in New Zealand.
