IT Manager (Tech Lead): Applications support - 12 month Contract
Join a leading enterprise organisation as an Tech Lead This is a crucial leadership role responsible for the end-to-end management of global technology platforms, ensuring exceptional system reliability, and leading a cross-functional technical team. We are seeking an experienced technical leader who can drive strategic modernization, uphold high compliance standards, and foster a high-performing, collaborative culture.
The Role & Key Accountabilities
The successful candidate will be accountable for the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) of the company's global selling platform and the management of all IT Infrastructure and Support globally.
...- Platform & SDLC Oversight: Accountable for the end-to-end SDLC of technology platforms (140 applications), overseeing development, support, and continuous improvement across all phases.
- Team Leadership & Management: Lead and manage a cross-functional team of approximately 11 IT professionals (part of a broader team of 60), including Software Developers, QA Testers, Data Analysts, a Solutions Architect, and the IT Support team. Focus on delegating and mentoring rather than micromanaging.
- Infrastructure & Cloud Management: Provide oversight and hands-on management/support of IT Infrastructure, including Private Cloud and Azure services.
- System Reliability & SRE: Drive system uptime and implement SRE best practices. Establish SLIs and SLOs based on key business metrics and leverage logging/APM tools (Datadog, NewRelic, Splunk) for Monitoring & Observability.
- Incident & Crisis Leadership: Oversee and execute the incident response process, serving as the escalation point. Lead Postmortem reviews, ensure robust documentation, and provide technical summaries and timely communication to stakeholders/product owners.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Oversee platforms operating within a high-compliance industry, managing complex and differing compliance requirements (IT, Data Protection, Finance, Taxation, Food safety) in each global market.
- Technical Strategy & Modernization: Contribute to developing architecture principles and technical design decisions. Guide initiatives like application modernization, re-architecting, and addressing major technical debt and security vulnerabilities.
- Process Improvement: Drive the adoption of Agile methodologies (using Azure DevOps) and improve visibility of team progress, workload, and reporting to management.
Skills & Experience Required
- IT Leadership: Proven experience as an IT Manager, Technology Manager, or similar function, specifically managing cross-functional technical teams (Developers, QA, Infra, Support).
- SDLC & Methodology: Extensive experience managing the full Software Development Lifecycle and a strong working knowledge of Agile methodologies and Project Management.
- Technical Foundation: Comprehensive knowledge of leading cloud platforms (Certifications are a plus) and familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform.
- Reliability & Monitoring: Prior experience developing and managing alerting/monitoring frameworks, including the use of tools like Datadog, NewRelic, or Splunk.
- CI/CD & Security: Experience managing and securing CI/CD environments.
- Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated ability to manage expectations and coordinate communication with stakeholders and product owners effectively.
- Scripting Proficiency: Ability to create scripts in PowerShell, Python, or other scripting languages.
- Beneficial: Experience with ITSM tools is advantageous.
Location & Engagement
- Duration: This is a 12-month contract role, with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent full-time position.
- Location: Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch New Zealand (Hybrid Working Model).
