This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and curious chemist to join our collaborative product development team of seven formulation chemists. As a Formulation Chemist, you will report to the Product Development & Programme Manager and develop and optimise cosmetic formulations, working closely with customers from brief to finished product. You'll bring both strong technical expertise and excellent communication skills to deliver innovative, compliant, and commercially viable products.
Working with some of New Zealand’s top cosmetic brands, you'll be a key technical contact for our customers, managing expectations and delivering formulation outcomes with confidence

Shift:6:30am – 3:00pm (Beat the Auckland traffic!)

Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will be responsible for both technical development and customer-facing project management:
- Developing and optimising cosmetic formulations for some of the leading brands in the country, including formulation research, preparation of customer samples, developing manufacturing instructions, specifying product quality control specifications, and overseeing stability and efficacy testing.
- Acting as the key technical point of contact for customers throughout formulation development, including meeting customers to qualify incoming product briefs and translating customer feedback into formulation adjustments to deliver results that meet the specific client requirements.
- Proactively plan, track and deliver product development projects, including communicating project updates and managing client expectations regarding timelines and scope throughout the development cycle.
- Maintaining meticulous formulation and project management records and technical documentation.
- Supporting the wider team with essential laboratory tasks and ensuring the workspace is well-organised.
About You
The successful candidate will be a confident communicator who enjoys the challenge of managing customer relationships within a fast-paced environment. You will ideally have:
- A degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
- Previous formulation experience, ideally within the cosmetic or chemical industries
- Exceptional communication skills and the confidence to discuss technical information and manage customer expectations professionally
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive, hands-on approach to both laboratory work and customer management
