About the Role
Are you based in or around Warkworth and passionate about keeping Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana, its pristine coastline, waters, and pest-free islands healthy?
If you have an interest in chatting with the community about our marine environment, biosecurity, or conservation, this is the role for you! We are seeking two enthusiastic, reliable individuals based in the Warkworth area to protect our local coastal backyard as Marine Biosecurity Ambassadors. This is the perfect opportunity to pick up exciting temporary summer work right on your doorstep.
What You’ll Be Doing
Serious biosecurity issues, including plant diseases, rodents and marine pests, to name a few, are affecting our Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana and Islands, and we want you to be an ambassador to help prevent further harm.
You will be educating boaties and visitors travelling to Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana and its islands at key waterfront boat and ferry departure points in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland on the importance of preventing the spread of pests and diseases, and how this can occur. You will be working in pairs, rostered around the region, primarily working on Fridays, weekends and public holidays. You will be starting on 3rd of December 2026 and potentially up to 26th April 2027.
All Ambassadors must also be comfortable and confident in approaching and talking to people, working outdoors and in a variety of locations. Reliable transport is a must. Training will be provided.
Start date: The assignment runs from 3rd December to 26th April (you can choose to
finish around Auckland Anniversary/Waitangi weekend for the university term).
Hours: Part-time, around 18 hours per week (6-hour shifts - Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, as well as Public Holidays) Some mid-week work will be required during the peak holiday season. Shifts are weather dependent.
