Cloud Engineer - Azure - Auckland
We are seeking a highly skilled Azure Cloud Engineer for a full-time, permanent opportunity with a leading enterprise organisation in the Fintech sector in Auckland. This organisation is committed to digital transformation and requires a specialist to design, secure, and maintain their core Azure networking infrastructure and associated cloud-native platforms.
This is a deep technical role that sits at the core of the organisation's modern cloud operations and governance strategy.
About the Role:
The primary focus is to design, build, and maintain the underlying Azure networking topology and the platform components that ensure the organisation's digital products operate reliably, securely, and scalably within the Azure ecosystem. This includes enforcing governance through Azure Policies, managing the core networking fabric.
Key Responsibilities include:
... - Implementing secure, highly available network solutions utilizing VNets, ExpressRoute, Front Door, and NSGs.
- Design the network topology, control traffic flow at the subnet level and link different VNETs together.
- Manage incoming traffic both regionally and globally.
- Securely connect the Azure cloud environment back to the on-premises data center
- Platform Governance: Designing and implementing robust Azure Policy definitions for compliance, security, and cost control across multiple subscriptions.
- Cloud Operations & Lifecycle: Managing the end-to-end lifecycle of Azure Virtual Machines and key platform services, including provisioning, backup, and subscription management.
- Service Improvement: Seeking out and implementing new native Azure practices, tools, or approaches to proactively improve network performance, security, and delivery efficiency.
- Collaboration: Working effectively in cross-functional teams, including the organisation's internal teams (VS, CoE), vendors, and partners.
Skills:
In this role, you will run applications and workloads in Azure, emphasizing both traditional servers and modern containerization. Must haves :
- Virtual Machines (VMs, VMSS, Spot VMs): The candidate must know how to provision, manage, and scale server infrastructure, including leveraging cost-saving features (Spot VMs) and ensuring high availability/scalability (VM Scale Sets). Azure VMs. Azure BackUp Services.
- Azure Networking Infrastructure: Expertise in designing and securing the virtual nervous system of the cloud environment. Virtual Networking (VNet, Subnets, NSG, UDR).
- Global Connectivity & Security: Strong experience with Azure Front Door, Load Balancers, Application Gateways, and setting up hybrid connectivity (VPN/ExpressRoute).
- Azure Governance & Compliance: Hands-on experience defining, deploying, and managing Azure Policies and Blueprints to enforce security and resource standards across subscriptions and management groups.
- Automation: Scripting and automation for infrastructure deployment, preferably using PowerShell or Bicep/ARM Templates/Terraform.
Key Skills Needed (Advantageous Exposure):
- Familiarity with Azure Cost Management and optimization practices.
