The Company
Our client is an established gaming company that develops digital and physical gaming experiences. They operate with a flat organizational structure, prioritizing flexibility and streamlined decision-making while giving engineering teams input into product direction.
The Role
As a Contract Full-Stack WordPress Developer, you will support the ongoing business-as-usual (BAU), maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company's WordPress ecosystem. This hands-on, support-focused role spans both frontend and backend development, helping maintain and optimize live websites while supporting ongoing business, marketing, and product initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- WordPress Ecosystem Management: Overseeing ongoing BAU support, general upkeep, and maintenance of the company's WordPress platforms.
- Full-Stack Development: Delivering frontend and backend website improvements, building new pages, and executing UI updates.
- System Maintenance: Bug fixing, plugin updates, website optimization, and ensuring cross-device responsiveness and usability.
- System Integration: Supporting and expanding CMS functionality, including API and third-party tool integrations.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Assisting product, marketing, and web initiatives by providing reliable development support alongside the Web Coordinator and Engineering teams.
- Workflow Optimization: Balancing structured project delivery with ongoing support tasks, while identifying and resolving frontend performance bottlenecks.
Key Requirements
- Experience: Strong commercial WordPress development experience, with a proven track record of debugging and maintaining live production websites.
- Core Skills: Proficient across both frontend and backend development, with strong skills in PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
- Architecture & Integrations: Solid understanding of WordPress hooks, filters, and CMS architecture, alongside practical API and third-party integration experience.
- Workflows: Experience with Git and modern deployment workflows, ensuring clean version control and maintainability.
- Approach: A pragmatic, delivery-focused approach to engineering, with the ability to work independently, manage ongoing support tasks, and comfortably improve existing systems over time.
- Additional Skills (Preferred): Exposure to modern frontend frameworks, alongside an awareness of SEO, web performance, and accessibility best practices. Experience supporting content-heavy or high-traffic websites, or a personal interest in gaming/trading card games (TCGs) is a plus.
This position is a part-time contract (20-30 hours/week) offering an open-ended engagement with the potential for increased hours over time. It is a support-oriented contractor role rather than a product ownership role.
