Cyber Security Engineer - Cloud & Ops
I am looking for an Intermediate Security Engineer looking to step up, stamp your mark, and protect the digital future of NZ.
I’ve partnered with a highly respected technology organization that is investing heavily in cyber security. This entity operates broadband networks in New Zealand, meeting the connectivity and cybersecurity needs of New Zealanders.
This is a permanent opportunity to work across cloud infrastructure and security operations, protecting critical platforms while learning alongside exceptional senior engineers.

What You'll Be Doing:
- Monitor, investigate, and respond to security incidents, threats, and vulnerabilities.
- Design, implement, and improve security controls to strengthen cloud, network, endpoint, and ecosystem security.
- Lead vulnerability management activities, collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to prioritize and remediate risks.
- Maintain, support, and optimize key security platforms, including the Microsoft security suite, enterprise firewalls, and email gateways.
- Create clear, accessible security procedures, baselines, and project documentation for internal teams to promote secure development lifecycles.
What You'll Bring:
- Valid NZ work rights.
- Around 3+ years of dedicated experience in a Security Engineer, SOC Analyst, or Security Operations role.
- Strong practical knowledge of MS Sentinel (SIEM/KQL/Lucene), Defender Suite, and Entra ID/ Azure AD.
- Real-world experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting enterprise network firewalls (exposure to Fortinet or Palo Alto is an advantage).
- The ability to articulate security risks or "the why" to non-technical business stakeholders.
- The confidence to provide firm but constructive feedback to high-pressure requests when they introduce unacceptable risks, always offering safer technical alternatives.
- Exposure to Python, Ansible, Windows/Linux environments
