The Role
In this role you will be responsible for developing and leading the performance of Project Management practices and activities while being hands-on. This includes:
- Developing Project Management strategy and supporting practices and methods: Actively advocate for the utilization of established project management methodologies, identify project weaknesses, and propose alternate or innovative strategies or tools to continuously improve project delivery.
- Planning and execution of project management activities and services: Take full end-to-end accountability for organizing and running workshops, documenting requirements, and creating integrated project plans. Execute projects to approved standards and manage quality, actions, and issues throughout the project lifecycle.
- Developing Project Management capacity and capability: Provide guidance, direction, and coaching to project team members on project management skills and tools.
- Ensuring pre-project and project requirements are well-resourced and available: Assist in the preparation of timetables, identify resourcing requirements, define roles, and manage resource allocation and negotiations.
- Ensuring project management activities are well-integrated with BAU functions: Manage the seamless transition of final project deliverables into operational teams and collaborate closely with operational managers and business leaders across the organization.
- Ensuring projects are managed to budget and deadlines: Ensure project team members record activities to correct financial codes, actively manage change requests impacting scope, timeframe, or cost, and ensure projects are efficiently delivered on time and within budget.
Key Requirements
- 5+ years of demonstrated Project Management experience: At least 5 years as a dedicated project manager handling complex projects.
- Experience in resource capacity planning: Proven ability to identify resourcing requirements, define roles, and negotiate resources with operational managers.
- Experience in managing large projects involving multiple vendors and third parties: Track record managing project teams ranging from 4 to 20 people while interfacing with external parties such as clients, custodians, banks, insurance companies, accountants, and auditors.
- In-depth understanding of Financial Services: Strong technical understanding of investments, wholesale funds, superannuation, KiwiSaver, and workplace savings. High proficiency in Microsoft Project is required.
- Experience in managing multiple projects at a time: Demonstrable experience successfully managing multiple concurrent project streams.
- Experience in leading and developing a team: Experience acting as a line manager in a project context, resolving conflicts, setting clear expectations, and coaching team members to grow their capabilities.
- Having excellent stakeholder management skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to engage and maintain relationships with internal business units (including Legal, Risk, Compliance, and Marketing) and external clients.
- Having industry-related qualifications or certifications: A university degree or formal project management qualifications are preferred but not essential.
