Data Migration Engineer

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Migration Consultant to manage end-to-end data delivery for a leading data solutions company in Auckland. This hands-on role involves translating business requirements into scalable cloud data migration strategies. You will engage with stakeholders to design conceptual and physical data models, while remaining actively involved in the technical implementation of migrating and modernising data on cloud platforms.

Key Duties

Migration Delivery: Develop ingestion, transformation, and presentation layers to support enterprise data migration to modern cloud platforms.
Data Transformation: Build and maintain scalable dbt models, Snowflake schemas, and modern ELT transformation pipelines.
Data Quality & Governance: Profile source system data quality, identify data issues, and implement data validation and reconciliation frameworks for the migration.
Stakeholder Engagement: Run requirements discovery workshops, document data mapping specifications, and manage executive-level business expectations.
Technical Quality: Provide practical technical leadership across projects and apply software engineering best practices, including version control and CI/CD processes.

Skills & Experience Required

Experienced Professional: Proven track record of delivering end-to-end data solutions, including managing enterprise data platforms, cloud data warehouses, and complex data migration projects.
Technical Stack: Advanced SQL development skills combined with extensive hands-on experience using Snowflake and dbt.
Data Architecture: Practical experience implementing modern ELT frameworks, dimensional models, and robust data testing/quality principles.
Stakeholder Management: Effective consulting and communication skills to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
Analytical Mindset: Pragmatic approach to problem-solving, identifying underlying data patterns, and implementing remediation strategies.
